Not many know but the Under 19 Cricket World Cup is underway in South Africa. It is an important sporting event in Cricket since it is from these teams that the future Cricket stars emerge. It was first started in 1988 as the Youth World cup and then again held in 1998. Since 1998 it was held every four years but since 2016 onward it has been held every 2 years. Although India has been the champions in this format of the game. It has never hosted this event till date the first in 1998 was hosted by Australia.

Non-Popular Cricket playing nations have also participated in the sport. This year there have been teams from the UAE, Nigeria, Canada Japan and Scotland. While Scotland may not seem as a surprise playing cricket. It is for the first time that one would have heard Japan playing the sport. There are a total of 16 teams that are playing the Under 19 Cricket World Cup. The 16 teams have been divided into 4 teams in a group of 4 that will play each other in the Group stages and then will progress to the knockout stages.

The full members of the ICC Cricket World Cup automatically but the other nations had to qualify in their respective regions to qualify for the Under 19 Cricket World Cup. The tournament is currently underway and started on the 17th of January 2020. It will continue till the 9th of February which will be when the finals of the event will take place. Currently, it is West Indies and India that has won all matches at this stage but since it is very early at this stage. It is tough to say who will emerge as the ultimate winners of the Under 19 Cricket World Cup.
