1. Asaram Bapu
Asumal Sirumalani, known as Asharam Bapu, was born on 17 April 1941. He left his home, when he was 23, in an attempt to search God. In 1970s, Bapu’s followers built an ashram for him in Gujarat. According to reports, he had 400 major and minors in the Ashram and his 50 gurukuls in India and Abroad by 2013. 1. Asharam Bapu was accused of having a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old daughter, while her mother was waiting outside in his Jodhpur Ashram. After complaining about the Incidents, The Jodhpur police summoned him, but the self-styled godman claimed he was an innocent man, and the girl was like his daughter.

2. When Asaram Bapu was asked about the heartwarming incident of December 16, Gangrape, Baba had made a controversial remark saying, the victim too was equally responsible for the crime. He said the girl could have called her assailants brothers and begged them to stop.
3. The ministry of corporate affairs said it had received complaints against him and his son in an alleged 700-acre land-grabbing case and serious frauds which the investigation office is looking into.

4. Once again he came to light in 2008 when two decomposed bodies of boys were found in his Ashram from the banks of Sabarmati River, the people were alleging the Black Magic Practice was being performed in his Ashram, but the claim was found to be false after an investigation.

Sant Rampal has always been in the news for his controversial statement. Rampal is a leader of Kabir Panth and founder of Satlok Ashram in 1999. He has a huge fan following in Haryana. According to self-claimed Godman, Rampal, the Hindu trinity along with their parents have misled people into illusion instead of the worship of Sat Purush. He urges people to worship Kabir as their Supreme God. Sant Rampal is also one of the most controversial gurus in India, have a loot at some of his controversies.

1. In 2006, Sant Rampal made a controversial statement and criticized the Arya Samaj, which led to clashes between the two sects, in which an Arya Samaj follower was killed. His legal woes began in 2006 when he clashed with supporters of Arya Samaj founder Swami Dayanand Saraswati, which led to the death of one person.

2. In November 2014, five bodies were discovered by the police after they stormed the ashram of a self-styled godman, Rampal, in Haryana’s Hisar. Another of the man’s followers died in hospital.

3. Swami Nithyananda
According to the report, he is the most-watched spiritual teacher on YouTube having a viewership of more than 14 million viewers and the author of more than 300 books published in 27 languages.

Controversies:
1. Swami Nithyananda came to light, as the video telecasted by a Local news Channel, showing him in a compromising situation along with an actress. Nithyananda denied the video and said, it was morphed and manipulated to defame his image.
2. As the video of surfaced, the Karnataka government vowed to take strict action against Nithyananda. The Karnataka government too promised “very strict” action against him.

3. Lenin Karuppan, who had exposed the alleged sex scandal, was arrested after a complaint by the manager of Nithyananda’s ashram that Lenin had demanded money to keep the video secret.
4. Nithyananda was also accused of rape by Indian-born American citizen, Arthi Rao, in June 2012. Rao went on Indian television accusing Nithyananda of raping her for several years. Nithyananda again denied the allegations.

4. Chandraswami: Indian Controversial Baba
Chandraswami had a keen interest in becoming a Tantrik, he left the house when he was a child along with his Tantrik Pandit, Gopinath Kaviraj. His association with former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao brought Chandraswami – the controversial Tantrik into prominence. Interestingly, the godman’s finances have fluctuated with his political fortunes. Chandraswami died of multiple organ failure at Apollo Hospital in New Delhi on 23 May 2017. Chandraswami is one of India’s most controversial gurus.

1. Indian court accused Chandraswami in multiple cases of financial irregularities and fraud. Court-ordered him to pay a penalty in several Foreign Exchange Management Act violation cases registered by the enforcement directorate.

2. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has imposed a total penalty of Rs 9 crore (approx) on Chandraswami in 13 cases of Foreign Exchange Regulation Act violations for acquiring foreign exchange in contravention of the Act.
3. Chandraswami arrested on charges of defrauding a London-based businessman of $100,000 In 1996. The Enforcement Directorate is still investigating his alleged role as a financier in the killing.
5. Gurmeet Ram Rahim
The self-styled godman and spiritual leader and Dera Sacha Sauda, chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim, has registered his organization to several Guinness World Records. His name listed as the 100 most powerful Indians in 2015. He acted in many films, which shows his teaching style and himself. Last year, he was one of the most Indian Controversial Baba.
The Dera Sacha Sauda head was in the news recently for announcing that nearly 1,500 followers of the sect were ready to marry the Uttarakhand women who lost their husbands in the flash floods and landslides that struck the hill state.

The spiritual leader and preacher have, in association with the American Society of Echocardiography, created a world record for most cardiac echo tests. On August 25, Baba Ram Rahim convicted of rape by a Special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Court.
Controversies:
1. On June 25, 2008, Ram Rahim’s bodyguards had allegedly fired at a crowd at Nirmal Lifestyle mall in suburban Mulund, Mumbai, which left Balkar Singh, a Sikh killed. Citing lack of evidence, a fast track court acquitted 14 volunteers of Dera Sacha Sauda, in the case.
2. Ram Rahim landed in a controversy when he wore an attire similar to tenth Sikh, Guru Gobind Singh, and distributed Amrit(nectar) to his followers at his Dera in Sirsa.

3. The Punjab and Haryana high court issued a notice of motion to the Dera Sacha Sauda head Gurmit Ram Rahim Singh of Sirsa seeking an explanation for the allegations made against him by his follower for sexually exploiting his wife.
4. A Tehelka investigation alleged that the Dera Sacha Sauda is a den of vice and accused Baba Gurmeet Singh of rape and murder.
