Due to the rupture of a glacier in Uttarakhand, there was a sudden flood in Rishiganga and Dhauliganga valleys on 7th February this year. About 200 people had lost their life in this event. Apart from this drought has also increased 13 times in 15 years and affecting around 40% of flood-prone districts. Till 2005, there were only 6 drought-affected districts in India, but now their number has increased to 79. Since 2005, the number of districts affected by cyclones has also doubled on an average annually. In the last decade, about 258 districts of the East Coast have been affected by cyclones.
The United Nations i.e. UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has been assessing global climate change since 1988. This panel publish its reports in every 5 to 7 years. This is the sixth assessment report published on 9 August this year. It has given strong message to the governments across the world. Report suggested that global leaders should push their countries to maintain the earths temperature at current level of push down by 1.5 degrees to avoid extreme weather conditions in the world.

The developed and developing country leaders leaders continuously meeting to find the solution of this problem. Most of the government are setting target to control greenhouse gas production. This report has serious question on government effort to control pollution in National Capital Region (NCR). Although report also mention that the Air Quality of Delhi is slightly improved comparing 2019. But this is not significant and more effort needed to improve the air quality further for people living in Delhi Region.
Delhi stands at the 10th position as per report for most polluted cities in the world. But for any capital of country, Delhi stands at 1st position as per report in pollution index. The reports also included 22 other Indian cities in the list which has high level of pollution. This is alarming for the pollution control board of India and questioning their effort to control pollution.

Apart from Xinjiang from China Indian cities hold 9 consecutive position for most polluted city in the world. Apart from Delhi 21 other cities in the list including Ghaziabad, Bulandshahar, Bisarkh Jalalpur, Noida, Greater Noida, Kanpur, Lucknow, Meerut, Agra and Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh, Bhiwadi in Rajasthan, Faridabad, Jind, Hisar, Fatehabad, Bandhwadi, Gurgaon in Haryana. , Yamunanagar, Rohtak and Dharuhera and Muzaffarpur in Bihar.

According to the report Xinjiang from China is the most polluted city in the world. But after this 9 following cities are from the India in top 10 most polluted cities in the world. Ghaziabad ranks second in the list as most polluted cities in the world. After that the Bulandshahar, Bisarkh Jalalpur, Noida, Greater Noida, Kanpur, Lucknow and Bhiwadi comes. The pollution levels in these cities have been measured on the basis of PM 2.5.
The report also mentioned the effects of the Covid-19 lockdown has changed in PM2.5 pollutants worldwide. But the main factors of pollution in India are transportation, burning fuel for cooking, power generation. Industrial use, manufacturing work, burning of waste and burning of stubble and contribution to the pollution leve in these cities. More work needs in these sectors to control pollution further because Delhi Most Polluted Capital in the world.

The transport sector is the largest source of PM2.5 pollutants in Indian cities. According to a media report the PM2.5 data from 106 countries in the world measured for this report. The pollution control for most of the sources are monitored by the government agencies in India. Let me tell you that Jharia of Jharkhand was most polluted city in India as per a report of Greenpeace India last year. Greenpeace is an organisation working for the environment control in India. Surprisingly Most of cities in the list from North Indian and non of the city mentioned from other region in top 30 polluted city. I think pollution control department in norther region learn from other states to control pollution.

Lal Bahadur Shastri was the successor of Nehru and appointed as the Second Prime Minister for India. He was the second Prime Minister from the ruling Congress party in India. Shastri Ji who resurrected a nation’s broken self-confidence after the defeat against China in 1962 and led it to victory in 1965 war against Pakistan. He deserves to be remembered with respect.

12. On the occasion of his birth centenary in 2004, the RBI issued a Rs.100 coin with his portrait on it. The coin is non-circulating and is available on order only.

15. Underlining the importance to increase the production and supply of milk he promoted White Revolution. The National Dairy Development Board was formed in 1965. To boost India’s food production he promoted the Green Revolution.
16. During his PM tenure, the country had faced an acute food shortage. He was the only one who ensured that the food could be distributed equally and urged people to skip one meal a day. He went on air to appeal people to skip one meal in a week. The appeal got a good response with eateries shutting down the shutters on Monday evening and soon people started to call it ‘Shastri Vrat’.

17. During his tenure his family requested him to buy a car. He bought a Fiat car which cost him Rs 12, 000. He had only Rs 7000 in his bank account so he applied for Rs 5,000 from the Punjab National Bank. The car is today kept at the Shastri Memorial in New Delhi.
18. Shastri had a Chevrolet Impala car for his official use. Once his son took the car for his personal use. When Shastri came to know about this then he asked his driver to check the distance for the car driven for personal use. He later deposited the money in the government account.

19. On January 11, 1966, he took his last breath in Tashkent, the day after signing the Tashkent Declaration. His death is still a mystery for years.
