Good news for IPL 2020 fans and cricket lovers across the world. The Indian Premier League (IPL) will play in the UAE from 19 September this year. The final of the league will be on 8 November. Sources associated with the BCCI gave this information to the leading media house on Thursday. It will confirm at the IPL Governing Council meeting next week. BCCI has already informed the franchisees about this plan.

The IPL Governing Council will meet next week to discuss the even and logistics. This will include shifting leagues to the UAE.  Creating Corona Guidelines for franchisees and broadcasters. BCCI official told the media that the governing council of the IPL will meet and the important agendas. The agenda may include

Shifting the IPL 2020 to UAE for all matches

An official associated with the franchise told the media that the BCCI will inform the Emirates Cricket Board as soon as the government approves to conduct the league in UAE. The board will not shorten the tournament like the old format. There will be 60 matches and each team will play 14 matches.

Given the doubleheader (two matches in a day), the tournament can be of 44 to 48 days. The original schedule had doubleheaders on only 5 Sundays. However, their number may increase in the current situation.

BCCI officials will discuss guidelines and training for franchisees 

The UAE has three cricket stadiums which may have IPL matches. It has Dubai International Stadium, Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Zayed Stadium, and Sharjah Ground. According to the information, the BCCI can hire ICC Academy for training teams. The ICC Academy has two full-size cricket grounds.

In such a situation, the teams stay in Dubai will be able to get train at the ICC Academy. Apart from this, teams staying in Abu Dhabi can also practice here because the distance from Dubai to Abu Dhabi is only one and a half hours. However many nets bowlers will not practice on the field in that case.

BCCI governing council will also discuss the broadcasters demand for IPL 2020

At the IPL Governing Council meeting, the broadcaster demand will also discuss in length for the tournament. The league’s broadcaster Star Sports has acquired IPL rights in 16,347 crores. The timing of the match on the night may be discussed in the meeting. There is a time difference between India and the UAE.

There are Diwali on 14 November and that too needs an consideration during the IPL 2020. The doubleheader matches and can be reduced during the festive season for broadcasters benefit. If this is not considered then they may lose ad revenues.
